As you already know, the following are the main periods of planets.
Sun : 6 years
Moon : 10 years
Mars : 7 years
Rahu : 18 years
Jupiter : 16 years
Saturn : 19 years
Mercury : 17 years
Ketu : 7 years
Venus : 20 years
Now, if you want to find out the sub period of Venus in the main period of Sun without looking into the book, please follow the simple method given below.
Main period of Sun: 6 years
Main period of Venus: 20 years
Multiply these two and you will get 120 (6x 20=120).
Now, you have 120 before you. You multiply the last digit 0 with 3 and you will get number of days. Please take the first two digits as the number of months. That is in this case you will get 12 months and 0 days. Please check the book now if it is correct or not.
The sub period of Sun in the main period Venus would be the same. You can check it.
We will do one more example:
Find out the Jupiter sub period in the main period of Mercury or Mercury sub period in the main period of Jupiter.
Mercury main period: 17 years
Jupiter main period: 16 years
Multiply these two numbers and you will get 272 (16X 17=272).
Multiply the last digit 2 with 3 and you will get 6 days The first two digits of 17 should be taken as months without any multiplication. This means you will get 27 months. So, Jupiter sub period in the main period of Mercury is 27 months. Or Mercury sub period in the main period of Jupiter would also be the same. You can check the book for this.
Please remember that the last digit should always be multiplied with number 3 to get days. The first two digits should be taken for and treated as months. This is a permanent principle.
Now, finding out the sub- sub period of a planet in the sub period of another planet is as follows.
We have already worked out the sub period of Venus in the main period of Sun. Now we have to find out the sub- sub period of Moon in the sub period of Venus in the main period of Sun.
We already worked out Venus sub period in the main period of Sun which is as follows.
It is 12 months and 0 days. Convert it into days fully. You will get 360 days (12x 30 =360).
You have to find out the sub-sub period of Moon in the sub period Venus.
Moon main period is 10 years. Now you take is as 10/ 120. Multiply this result with the number of days got above.
360 X 10/120 = 30 days
That means Moon sub- sub period in the sub period of Venus in the main period of Sun is 30 days that is one month. You can check it in the book.
The permanent principle in this is that whenever you want to find out the sub-sub period, note down its main period and divide it by 120. And then multiply the result with the sub period as we have done above. This is a permanent principle.
Regarding finding out the balance period at the time of birth, you can easily find it out from the book also.
Open the page number 114 in the Ephemeris. You will find a table showing balance of periods at the time of birth. This is how to find out.
Suppose, Moon is at 10 degrees in Libra (Tula) in a horoscope. See the longitude of Moon, the first column in the page against Tula. When the longitude of Moon is 10 degrees 0 minutes in Libra, the balance of period is 13 years 6 months and 0 days of Rahu (See in the column of Moon in Mithuna, Tula and Kumbha). That means at the time of birth, that balance of Rahu period is 13 years 6 months and 0 days.
Suppose the longitude of Moon is 10 degrees and 3 minutes, how will u do it? In the next page 115, you will see a small table showing proportional parts. The first column is minutes and against 3 minutes in the column of Rahu, it shows 0 months 24 days.
If Moon is at 10 degrees, the balance of Rahu period is 13 years 6 months. You can see in the table that as the longitude of Moon increases, the balance period would be reducing. If it is 10 degrees 3 minutes, the balance of Rahu period will be reduced by an equivalent of 3 minutes. We found out that the equivalent of 3 minutes for Rahu is 24 days. Deduct this from the 13 years 6 months 0 days and you will get the balance period o Rahu if the Moon is at 10 degrees 3 minutes.

0 – 0 – 24 d ( minus)
13 y – 5 m – 6 days. This is the balance of Rahu at the time of birth .
